Department of Science and Humanities

About the Department

The Department of Science and Humanities is bridging the curriculum between school and Engineering education. The main shove behind the establishment of the department is to promote basic scientific understanding and knowledge for undergraduate engineering students and conduct research in prominent area of interdisciplinary sciences and engineering that will be beneficial for the Nation and the World at large. he main shove behind the establishment of the department is to promote basic scientific understanding and knowledge for undergraduate engineering students and conduct research in prominent area of interdisciplinary sciences and engineering that will be beneficial for the Nation and the World at large. The department has highly qualified, well experienced and dedicated faculty members. The department is having state-of-the-art Language laboratory with advanced techniques & e-learning mechanism to enhance the Communication Skills and Employability skills of the students. This Department shoulders the responsibility of teaching basic subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics & English for all engineering courses. This Department imparts excellent quality of education in various fields for future development of students. It takes lot of efforts to make the students understand the basic concepts with right learning atmosphere. The acquired skills help the students to upgrade their expertise in Engineering Applications. The teaching and learning are integrated with Aakash 2.0 tablet IIT Bombay along with the Ministry of Human Resource Development. It includes 3D-modelling, C++ programming, remote and collaborative training applications, robotic control and live assessment tools. The department has well equipped lab for academic and research. The Department also encourages students to engage in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities to develop their team spirit and organizational skills.

World class research work has been adopted in our department with funding from various funding agencies and industries. The main area of research are Nanotechnology, Nanomedicine, Drug delivery, Quantum well, Crystal physics, Solar cell research, Polymer Chemistry, Nanobiotechnology, Green synthesis etc. The faculty members have been profuse in publishing books, book chapters, articles and research papers in National and International journals. We have contact with technical experts in Indian Institute of Remote sensing, Indian Institute of Technology - Bombay, PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Paramedical Sciences.

Message from Head of Department

It is a great honor for me to write this message for the Science and Humanities department of Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology. It has been created to promote and develop teaching, research and other development areas in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English. The Department of Science and Humanities has been offering excellent infrastructural and laboratory facilities to the aspiring professional students to flourish in their engineering field. The department has thirteen energetic well-being consummate faculty members to shine the career of undergraduate B.E and B.Tech students. The faculty members give additional support for the final year students for their projects and interdisciplinary staff members who are pursuing research by providing laboratory facilities. Our aim is to bring out excellence among students in the respective disciplines by providing them with a deeper and thoroughbred knowledge about the basic facts and fundamentals of science. .

The department provides a number of opportunities for students to develop their overall personality. Students are participating in various co-curricular activities throughout the year. In addition to the theoretical lecturing, we give more significance on practical sessions. Our teaching and learning process is based on the Outcome Based Education (OBE). I sincerely thank our Management SNR Sons Charitable Trust and the Principal, Dr. M. Paulraj for constant encouragement, support and guiding us in a right direction.

Our Vision is to establish world class Research and Development programme in all the areas of fundamental sciences that support Engineering and Technology.

The Mission of Science and Humanities Department is to impart flexible, responsive and innovative educational opportunities and to cultivate interest in the young minds to pursue research in emerging areas of Science and Technology.

  • 1. Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialisation for the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • 2. Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • 3. Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet t h e specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, and cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • 4. Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • 5. Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities, with an understanding of the limitations.
  • 6. The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • 7. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  • 8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  • 9.Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  • 10.Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with t h e society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  • 11.Project management and Finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of t h e engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
  • 12. Life-long learning: Recognise the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
