NATIONAL GIRL CHILD DAY ‘2023

The National Girl Child Day is celebrated in India every year on January 24. It was initiated in 2008 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development and the government of India, to spread public awareness about inequities that girls face in Indian society. The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering in association with the gender Champions Club organized a Rally followed by a Seminar in observing the National Girl Child Day.

The Rally was initiated by Dr.G.P.Godhanavalli, Entrepreneur & Proprietor of MGG Textiles, Coimbatore and Best Social Worker Awardee along with Ms. Selvakumari, SI, R2 Police Station, Perur, Coimbatore. All the First year B.E./ B.Tech. girl students were accompanied by HODs of various departments of SRIT for the Rally which commenced from the Taluk Office, Perur  upto Perur Chettipalayam. The participants undertook a pledge to save girl child in connection with the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (Save the girl child) which is the most recent initiative started by the government to actively encourage people to save the girl.

The Rally was followed by a Seminar on Save Girl Child: Combating abuse on women and girl children. Dr.C.R.Hema, Professor & Head, Department of EEE welcomed the gathering and introduced the Chief Guest. Dr.S.Nagarani, Professor & Head, Department of Science & Humanities was also present among the honourable guests. The Resource person Dr.G.P.Godhanavalli encouraged everyone to help prevent violence against w omen by talking with children about respect, gender equality and positive attitudes towards girls. She also added that ending violence against women is everyone’s responsibility and we have to take initiative to make a difference, safely and impactfully. Prevention should start early in life, by educating and working with young boys and girls promoting respectful relationships and gender equality was her message shared with everyone. The programme came to an end with a vote of thanks by Dr.S.Anne Susan Georgena, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics.
