Youth Red Cross Unit of Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology conducted an awareness programme on “Cancer” on 07.11.2023 at the college premises. The resource person for this programme was Dr. T. Karthika, MBBS, DMRT, DNB, Radiation Oncologist, Sri Ramakrishna Hospital, Coimbatore.  She briefed about cancer in India, physical and chemical factors, dietary factors,   common cancers in men like cancers of lung, oral cavity, pharynx, oesophagus, stomach, common cancers in women like cancers of cervix, breast, ovary, oral cavity, oesophagus and also elaborated the various causes for cancer. She also discussed about the tobacco related cancers, mechanism of Tobacco Carcinogenesis, Obesity related cancers and cancers related to infective causes. She also discussed the prevention methods of cancer and detailed about various cancer screening tests. About one hundred and fourteen students of Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology participated in this awareness programme and got benefitted.
