Powering the Future: Electric Vehicles
A three-day Short-Term Training Programme (STTP) on Electric Vehicles was organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering in collaboration with Mechatron Motors LLP at Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology from 6th January 2025 to 8th January 2025.
Inauguration
The program was inaugurated by Dr. B. Chokkalingam, Head of the Department (Mechanical Engineering), and Dr. S. Sangeetha, Head of the Department (Electrical and Electronics Engineering).
Program Highlights
Day 1: Introduction to Electric Vehicles
- Session Lead: Mr. S. Veerakumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
- Topics Covered: Evolution of Electric Vehicles, Overview of the EV Ecosystem and Basics of Sustainable Transportation.
- Afternoon Session: Hands-on training at the E-Vehicle Lab.
Day 2: Core Technologies in Electric Vehicles
- Session Lead: Mr. E. Ramkumar, Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
- Topics Covered: Battery Types and Cell Chemistry, Battery Management Systems (BMS), BLDC Motors and Controllers and Charging Infrastructure.
- Afternoon Session: Hands-on training at the E-Vehicle Lab.
Day 3: Practical Training
- Session Lead: Mr. R. Immanual.
- Topics Covered: Assembling, Disassembling, and Analyzing EV Components.
- Awareness session on EBDC (Electric Bike Design Challenge) by Mr. S. Veerakumar.
- Practical Focus: Extended hands-on training on EV components and systems.
Participation and Impact
Approximately 60 students from various polytechnic institutions actively participated in the program. They gained invaluable insights into the rapidly advancing field of electric vehicles and their critical role in fostering sustainable transportation.

The valedictory function was graced by:

- Dr. J. David Rathnaraj, Principal of Sri Ramakrishna Educational Institutions, Coimbatore.
- Dr. B. Chokkalingam, Head of the Department (Mechanical Engineering).
- Dr. S. Sangeetha, Head of the Department (Electrical and Electronics Engineering).
Certificates were distributed to the participants by the dignitaries, marking the successful completion of the program.
