Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology (SRIT), Perur Pachapalayam, Coimbatore, successfully hosted the Inauguration of the Coimbatore District Level Chess Tournament 2024 in association with APJ Sports Academy, Coimbatore, on October 20, 2024. The event was presided over by Dr. R. Nagendran, Professor of The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dr. P. Velusamy, Physical Director, and Mr. Varun, Placement Officer of SRIT, along with Mr. Vinoth Kumar, Chief Arbiter.Approximately 310 participants from various Chess Academies, schools and colleges around Coimbatore District, aged between 10 and 25, actively took part in the tournament. As we know, chess is more than just a game—it’s a battle of minds, a test of strategy, patience, and intellect. The chess tournament was officially inaugurated when Dr. R. Nagendran and Mr. Vinoth Kumar made the ceremonial first moves on the chessboard during the opening ceremony.The award ceremony was held in the evening, with Dr. J. David Rathnaraj, Principal of Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Technology, as the Chief Guest of Honour. The event was also presided over by Meyappan Rajendran, Founder of Gobar Tesco SBOA, S. R. Vimalaragavan, Mr. Vinodh, Secretary of APJ Sports Academy, Dr. V. Raja, Founder & President of APJ Friends & Brothers Charitable Trust, Dr. P. Velusamy, and Dr. R. Nagendran.All participants received participation certificates, and around 20 awards were presented across four categories: Under 8, Under 10, Under 15, and Under 25. The award for the most participants was presented to Isha Home School, Coimbatore.
